They do exist! I saw one similar to as pictured while running errands. I don’t believe I’ve seen one in person before, at least not driving. It also had the old style PA Historic Plate. I miss those plates...

That specific photo is hanging in a hallway at Ford’s NMPDC (the pilot plant, where they build the firs working prototypes.)

Interesting!  I’m going to assume that this was used as a press photo.  I found it where I find most of my “stock” pictures of cars (autowp.ru)

So beige... and green!  Such an odd color combination.  I’m guessing not many of these are still around even in the UK?

Can you spot the differences on the American one?

That’s a Spanish one for sale at a museum in Valencia, Spain.

The ones in Britain tended to be beige or brown for a beige car.

Somehow I missed that... it’s not like there’s any major discernible differences between the two markets or anything........

The green, while strange, certainly livens up the interior.

The obvious ones would be the sealed-beam headlights and bigger bumpers.  There may be less obvious ones though.

went in to look at the first new Escort back in ‘81 and a couple was driving off in the dealer’s last Fiesta, i questioned whether it was hard getting rid of them now that the new Escort was out, he told me he was sad to see them go they were selling like hot cakes, turned out they were smaller but better made and only sold as a stop gap until the Escort was ready, i later drove a Fiesta owned by a friend and loved it, and he he did too and was sad he couldn’t buy another new one it was a great car for him

My father had one when I was a kid. It was beige with a manual transmission. My father is 6'6" tall. It all looked a bit silly when he was driving it.

The Ford subcompact cars always seemed to have a cult following. Some more deserved than others ( the Fiestas more so than the Festiva/Aspire ). I wonder if that dealer’s experience was the norm?

My mom had one when I was in high school. It was a blast to drive.

It does look weird with those headlights and bumpers.

Other things I spot are; chrome, Ford logo, side reflectors, wheels

The strange thing about the Ford logo is that we really didn’t use the blue oval for a long period of time. I’m not entirely sure why.  It started to make a comeback around 1982 or so. Even the first year Escort didn’t have the blue oval:
